This legendary producer forever changed the reputation of island wines.
Along the northeastern coast of Sardegna lie the granite rocks of Gallura, a wild area on the island known for boulder-scattered hills, dense forests, and a UNESCO World Heritage-recognized ancient history. This is the region Capichera calls home.

A Family Legacy of Passion
By the late 1970s, a local family had forever changed the way the world would see Vermentino. They could see the potential of this humble grape and knew it could achieve its full expression if vinified as a single varietal. Even more revolutionary, they decided to promote aging Vermentino in barriques. These choices not only created Vermentino that is structured, age-worthy, and unlike anything tasted before, but they laid the foundation for their philosophy of "continuous work, attentive, and always devoted to respect for nature." Some of their oldest vineyards grow on some of the "Tombs of the Giants," ancient archaeological sites scattered across the island. As a nod to this history, these communal burial tombs are featured on several of their labels. Capichera became a model based on producing the highest quality wines, matched with continuous research.
After 40 years of innovation, Capichera entered its next chapter. Since 2022, the new ownership, while continuing to focus on pure Vermentino and Cannonau wines, has aimed to preserve and renew the legendary estate, including strengthening the soils, vineyards, and winery against climate change.

Discover Capichera's Wines
With roots tracing back to Bronze and Iron Age Nuragic civilizations, Sardegna has been isolated for thousands of years, creating a unique region culturally and agriculturally as shown with the island's ancient vines. Historians have even traced Cannonau, also known as Grenache, back to the island rather than to France or Spain.
The jagged Gallura terrain is harsh, forcing vines to struggle to find water and nutrients. The vines are often planted facing north to mitigate the region's intense heat. Diurnal swings, especially near the coast, help maximize the grapes' acidity while preserving the flavors. These factors combine to create wines that are concentrated and complex, especially Vermentino. Vermentino di Gallura is the only DOCG in Sardegna, known for being more mineral-forward and herbaceous than Vermentino produced elsewhere on the island.
Capichera grows several iconic Sardinian varieties for its collection of wines. Vermentino is done in both their signature barrel-aged style as well as in stainless steel for a more crisp representation of the grape. Carignano is used for both their rosé and reds, alongside Syrah (both in blends and a stunning single-varietal style) and other native varieties.
