About the Wines of Puglia: One of Italy's most fascinating regions, Puglia stands out as the tacco or "heel" of the Italian boot, boasting a warm Southern Italian climate, unique coasts, and a distinctive viticulture where the red Primitivo grape is king. The region is also home to local varietals such as Negroamaro and Bombino Nero. Puglia's diverse landscape of fertile soil allows easy growing conditions, as well as moderate temperatures provided by coastal winds from the water that surrounds most of the region.

About the Producer: Family owned since the 19th century, Tenuta Viglione is currently run by the fourth generation owner, Giovanni Zullo. The estate is located in the Gioia del Colle zone, an area known as the birthplace of Primitivo, located in western central Puglia near the border of Basilicata and between the provinces of Bari and Taranto. While Primitivo is currently well known from Puglia's southwestern zone of Manduria, Gioia del Colle tends to produce Primitivo of a more distinct and full bodied nature. Tenuta Viglione is located at the highest point on the Murgia plateau in the D.O.C. Gioia del Colle, and is a certified organic estate.
