What is the format of the cooking classes?

The majority of our classes are demonstration-style, in which the Chef of La Scuola prepares each dish step by step in our open kitchen. Guests enjoy each dish the chef prepares, along with complementary wine pairings, as they follow along with provided recipes and tasting notes. La Scuola also offers classes that focus on a single dish and classes that include a hands-on component, as well as additional formats that are more wine and beer-focused. Each class description details the format of the respective class.

Should I eat beforehand?

In each class, we serve our freshly-made rustico bread, courses prepared by the chef, and beverage pairings. We recommend that you come hungry!

Who teaches the classes?

Our classes are taught by Eataly’s in-house chef-instructors and experts, though we also host guest chefs throughout the year. Lidia Bastianich is the Dean of La Scuola, which means she helps build curriculum, oversees the programs that we offer, and teaches classes several times per year.

How can I purchase a class as a gift?

You can purchase either an Eataly in-store gift card or an e-gift card, both of which can be used towards class, tour, and event registrations. To learn more, click here for in-store gift cards and here for e-gift cards.

Can I register a large group of guests for a class?

Yes, guests may register as a group for one of our consumer classes, pending availability. We kindly ask any group attending our consumer classes to be mindful and respectful of the other guests attending to maintain a friendly educational environment. For groups larger than 10 guests, we recommend organizing a private class for a more intimate experience. How are guests seated at classes and events?

Our classes accommodate guests at tables that each seat two guests. Seating is guaranteed but is always first come, first served, so if you are with a larger group, we recommend you arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the class.

What is La Scuola?

Does La Scuola organize private classes?

Yes, La Scuola organizes private cooking, wine, and beer classes for groups. To arrange a class, please reach out to us through the contact form below, or visit the Private Dining & Events page for more information.

Can kids register for classes?

Yes! We host Kids' Kitchen classes that are specifically geared towards children ages 6-12. Children and young adults are also welcome to register for our other classes. Any guest under the age of 21 will be offered a selection of artisanal sodas and bottled water in lieu of wine or beer.

Does La Scuola accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, we are happy to accommodate guests with allergies or dietary restrictions with advance notice. If we do not receive advance notice, we may not be able to accommodate the request.

What is the cancellation policy for classes and events?

Payment in full is required at the time of registration. No refunds are offered on classes and events.

                  For groups of up to 4 guests, a minimum of 7 days’ notice is required in order to receive a credit in the form of a coupon for a future class or event.

                  For groups larger than 4 guests, a minimum of 14 days’ notice is required in order to receive a credit in the form of a coupon for a future class or event.

Occasionally, we will have to reschedule or cancel a class. In these situations, we will contact you directly at the phone number or email address you have provided to offer a full refund.

Does La Scuola cancel classes due to inclement weather?

Come rain, shine, or polar vortex, if the Chicago public transportation systems are running, so are our classes. We will only cancel classes due to severe weather if Chicago issues closures to its transportation systems. We will contact all registered guests in the event of a cancellation.

I've registered for a class online. Will I receive tickets in the mail for the class?

No. Once you have completed registration for a class, you will receive a confirmation email. This confirmation email acts as your ticket to the class.

Do I need to bring anything with me to the class?

We recommend bringing a copy of your confirmation email and a hearty appetite!
