SERRA Stellata by Birreria

SERRA Stellata by Birreria

SERRA by Birreria is a seasonal rooftop restaurant located on the 14th floor of Eataly NYC Flatiron. Meaning “greenhouse” in Italian, SERRA changes with the seasons, always offering a rustic menu reflective of the Italian countryside that you can enjoy all’aperto (outdoors) at a rooftop escape. This winter season, SERRA Stellata - In the Woods dives deep into the bosco (the woods) and winter, under a magical blanket of stars that promises to keep you warm even on an open air rooftop throughout the winter season. The newly designed ambience is inspired by starry nights in the forest (“stellata” means starry), encouraging you to look up and admire the winter night sky this season. Join us to enjoy dishes made with top local produce and seasonal ingredients sourced both regionally and from Italy’s best producers, an extensive cocktail menu (think: smoky and warm drinks), and an all-new star-studded ambiance.

Serra Stellata at Eataly NYC Flatiron

Inspired by the food and drink of the Italian countryside, SERRA offers a rustic menu that changes with the seasons. Our chefs source the very best ingredients that each season provides us with, working with both artisanal Italian producers and local U.S. farms. You’ll find that much of our produce is farm-fresh and sourced from the tristate area, chosen by our chefs at the Greenmarket right here in the city.

This season our chefs have worked meticulously to bring guests the feeling of sitting by a fire surrounded by the magical woodland forest in winter. Our newest seasonal menu features dishes like Cotoletta Valdostana, a breaded veal cutlet wrapped in Prosciutto Cotto Rovagnati and Fontina Valle D’Aosta DOP served with bright seasonal chicories, and the Porri e Taleggio, made with braised Norwich leeks with Taleggio cheese, dried Maitake mushrooms and topped with Villa Manodori Aceto Balsamico. Or warm up with Zuppa alla Zucca Affumicata, a smoked Norwich Meadow Butternut Squash soup with creme fraiche and sage.

Then dine as the Italians do in the winter with a selection of winter risotti featuring Carnaroli rice from Riso Scotti – the perfect grain for making al dente risotto – and the Polenta con Coniglio, featuring Wild Hive polenta topped with braised saffron rabbit and seasonal produce, sure to warm you up during a crisp winter day!

And on the cocktail menu? Our team of experts have crafted an entirely new menu inspired by the nuances of smoke and the woodsy vibes of the season. Smoke will actually be brought to the guest, as many cocktails will be prepared tableside with ingredients presented in smoked bottles. Then taste the different levels of smokiness in our Negroni Flight, where our experts bring you three different spins on the same cocktail, experimenting with intensity of smokiness by mixing classic ingredients like Campari and Carpano Antica Vermouth with new ones like ESP Smoked Gin, Corsair Wildfire Whiskey and more.

The woodland theme continues in the wine list, where guests will find a specific focus on wines aged in oak barrels. Guests will be able to learn, and taste, and taste, the different characteristics of wine aged in oak through a flight of three wines aged in various materials, from stainless steel to the classic Slavonian oak barrique and botti casks.

Did you know that forests are the most biodiverse ecosystem in the world, and serve as critical CO2 storage? In Italy, forests cover up to 40% of the Italian territory. Plants, animals and fungi live together in perfect balance with their forest habitat, guaranteeing  the survival of these ecosystems. Managing forests in a sustainable way and with an integrated landscape approach is key to conservation of the world’s biodiversity and to ensuring food security and the well-being of all people.

It is with this mindset that Eataly has decided to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees. The Arbor Day Foundation was founded in 1972 in observance of the centennial of the first Arbor Day, and their vision is to help others understand and use trees as a solution to many of the global issues we face today. During the course of SERRA Stellata - In the Woods, Eataly will donate a total amounting to 5000 newly planted trees to the Arbor Day Foundation, planted to reforest areas of the U.S. that are affected by natural disasters.
