JASON NERONI | Chef and Owner of Rose Café

Current head of L'Orto dello Chef

Rose Café is an iconic restaurant in the heart of Venice, serving locals and
travelers alike since 1979. Now, 36 years later, Chef Jason Neroni has kept the roots of the Rose that the community knows and loves, while introducing his seasonal, globally influenced cuisine. Chef Jason Neroni’s menu focuses on local southern California cuisine with an international influence from his world travels. The bakery celebrates American classics, as well as some of the original Rose bakery classics re-conceptualized with their innovative techniques. The sprawling space, designed by local company Studio UNLTD includes indoor and outdoor dining with a beer garden, a full market and bakery, Verve Coffee bar, and 40-foot cocktail bar. The design aesthetic took nods from the evolution of the Venice community over the past 30 years with artwork playing a major role. The Rose partnered with local Venice artist Craig Stecyk to cover one of its walls with a combination of bright 14-by-22-inch posters and historic imagery from the neighborhood.

NEAL FRASER | Chef and Owner of Redbird

Coming soon to L'Orto dello Chef

Chef-owner Neal Fraser and owner-operator Amy Knoll Fraser’s flagship restaurant Redbird features Modern American cuisine that is refined yet approachable and highlights the multi-cultural influences of Fraser’s native city, Los Angeles. As a follow-up to Grace and BLD, Fraser’s menu features seasonal small and large format plates ranging from snacks or “kickshaws” to entrees meant to be enjoyed by the whole table, complemented with desserts by Pastry Chef Kasra Ajdari. An extensive cocktail menu by Bar Director Tobin Shea features well-balanced, bespoke renditions of the classics and has garnered him awards such as Time Out’s Best Restaurant Bar Program in 2017. Sommelier Ben Teig’s wine list is well rounded with great finds from both established and emerging wine regions throughout the world. Under Ben’s direction, Redbird has received many awards including “Top 100 wine restaurants in the United States” by Wine Enthusiast and the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator.

Located in downtown Los Angeles, Redbird is carved into one of the city’s most historic architectural gems, inside the former rectory building of Vibiana, the cathedral-turned-event-venue also owned and operated by the Frasers and their partners. Designer Robert Weimer and Amy Knoll Fraser created a dynamic space that pays homage to the cathedral next door and the existing timeless architecture by inserting simple modern forms to complement rather than overtake the feel of the rooms. The result is a warm and comfortable considered space.

WALTER MANZKE | Chef and Owner of Republique

Coming soon to L'Orto dello Chef

République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République, which opened in winter of 2013 builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by their chefs.

The building that houses République is both timeless and unique. Built in 1928, it was initially conceived as a mixed-use space, with shops on the ground floor and office space above, surrounding an idyllic tiled courtyard. It first became a restaurant in 1989, when chefs Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton made extensive updates and opened the seminal La Brea Bakery and, six months, later Campanile.
