About Montepulciano: In the beautiful hills of Abruzzo, just east of Rome, lie some of the purest hills in all of Italy. Here you will find the highest concentration of organic farms and the home to one of Italy’s greatest treasures: the Montepulciano grape. A splendid and long-underrated grape variety, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo delivers rich and often complex red wines. This grape variety is produced in all four provinces of Abruzzo, however, the majority of it occurs in Chieti. With winds from the Adriatic Sea and soils of marly clay, sand and limestone, grapes grown here produce a hearty red that pairs beautifully with meat, pizza, and rich pasta dishes.
