Located in the heart of Puglia, San Marzano Winery is a collective of over 1,200 winemakers who have joined forces to foster a community passionate about producing premium vini. Over the past 60 years, they’ve transitioned to a more modern bottling facility and worked together to gradually reshape the perception of Apulian wines, moving away from bulk production and the focus on deep, jammy reds historically associated with the region. Even as they challenge tradition, they continue to embrace their roots, recently expanding their vineyards by 120 hectares and acquiring a 16th-century farmhouse.
Situated in the village of San Marzano di San Giuseppe in Puglia at the heel of Italy's 'boot,' the region’s iron-rich soil gives the grapes a distinctive red color, while the rocky terrain, sea breezes, and intense Southern Italian sun lend complex flavors to the wines.
One of San Marzano’s signature reds is Primitivo, which offers rich aromas of plums and cherries, with hints of spice, rosemary, and vanilla. It's full-bodied but smooth, making it especially easy to sip.
With rosé continuing to rise in global popularity, San Marzano has ventured into the blush category, a stark contrast to the region's well-known ruby reds. Tramari, San Marzano’s first rosé, derives its pink hue thanks to a few hours of skin contact. The result is a balanced wine with cherry and raspberry notes and a fresh finish.
In keeping with modern times, San Marzano has also collaborated with Italian artist Pietro Terzini on their limited-edition Tramari Rosé di Primitivo. The bottle, identified by it's label, “Just One More Glass, Amore Mio,” transforms the elegant rosé into a bold visual statement where art and wine come together in one unforgettable glass. The partnership utilizes the bottle itself with the label acting as a canvas for Terzini's contemporary artwork, creating a new outlet of expression. By bridging the worlds of fine wine with expressive design, San Marzano is reinforcing their commitment to cultural relevance.
