MEET LUXARDO
The story of Luxardo begins in 1821 with Girolamo Luxardo in Zara, a small town on the Dalmatian coast. As was custom at the time, his wife, Maria Canevari, was devoted to making liqueurs at home, particularly Rosolio Maraschino – a speciality made by infusing locally grown marasca cherries in alcohol, sweetening them with sugar, and adding rose essence for fragrance. The high quality of this liqueur gave Girolamo the idea to found a family enterprise on a large scale and, as a result, he set up a factory to produce Maraschino.
After eight years of refinement, Luxardo recieved the title “Privilegiata Fabbrica di Maraschino Excelsior", guaranteeing its superior quality. Now one of the oldest distilleries in the world, Luxardo is still entirely owned by the same family, having reached its 200th anniversary, and has continued to produce excellent Italian liqueurs through the generations.
Traditional copper pot stills, aging vats, marasca cherry orchards, warehouses, and brand new bottling lines are all pillars that distinguish the Luxardo distillery today, just as it was in the past. The fifth, sixth and seventh generations of the family that now work together in the company remain dedicated to continuing Girolamo's long legacy.
Luxardo offers a range of classic Italian liqueurs, with Maraschino and Cherry Liqueur – 'Sangue Morlacco' – the two traditional products. The company also crafts other typical Italian liqueurs, including Limoncello and Aperitivo, as well as a wide selection of specialities for confectionery. Their Original Maraschino Cherries, soaked in Luxardo marasca cherry syrup, are used in the worlds’ best bars and by the most famous mixologists as a garnish for their creations.
