Buon Viaggio: an Eataly Summer Travel Guide

Buon Viaggio: an Eataly Summer Travel Guide

After so much time spent stuck at home, a lot of us are finally dusting off our roller suitcases and taking to the road for a long-awaited vacation. So what's on the itinerary? Well, here at Eataly, we want to draw our own roadmap for anyone who wants to travel across the U.S. and get a little taste of la dolce vita along the way.

If you find yourself in Boston this summer, beat the heat by stopping by our Gelato Cart, located on the Boylston St. side of Eataly Boston in front of Il Patio di Eataly. Enjoy our artisan gelato flavors as you take in the sights of Boston's historical center al fresco!

Stopping in New York City? Grab a frozen treat on the go: our gelato-filled bombolone (or, doughnut) at Eataly NYC Flatiron is the perfect accompaniment to a long stroll through Madison Square Park.

The gelato at all Eataly locations across the U.S. is made in-house daily using whole milk from local farms. We slowly churn the milk together with the highest quality ingredients like pistachios from Sicilia, hazelnuts from Piemonte, and choice Venchi chocolate from Torino. Our range of sorbetto is made with real, whole fruit and is both dairy-free and egg-free.

When you think of Italian food, two dishes come to mind: pizza and pasta. Here at Eataly, we take them very seriously. Our signature pizza is made in the classic Neapolitan style using slow-fermented dough, San Marzano tomatoes, and handmade mozzarella. We fire it in a blistering 900℉ oven to achieve the chewy crust and charred exterior that define la pizza Napoletana. It’s available at all US locations, but we also specialize in several regional pizza styles that are rarely seen outside of Italy.

First up, there’s pizza alla pala, a Roman-style pizza with a soft crust and crispy exterior. Unlike the wood-fired Neapolitan variety, it’s made in an electric oven and topped with fresh ingredients after baking (we use its namesake wooden paddle or “pala” to slide it out of the oven). Try it at any location.

If you’re visiting NYC’s Madison Square Park, treat yourself to pizza al padellino. This regional specialty of Torino is baked in a pan, giving it a dense crust and golden brown exterior–think Italian deep dish. It’s only available from the Eataly Kiosk in Flatiron Plaza right across the street from our Flagship location. While you’re there, check out the beautiful design by renowned Italian artist Olimpia Zagnoli.

Craving more carbs? Our pasta team mixes, rolls, and forms more than twenty traditional pasta shapes by hand each day. You can sample our authentic fresh pasta at any location, but you can watch the process firsthand at Il Pastaio di Eataly. Located at our NYC flagship, this fresh pasta bar features an open kitchen where the pastai (pasta makers) work as your enjoy your meal.

There are few things that capture the essence of Italy like the aperitivo. An aperitivo is a pre-meal drink; the experience of aperitivo is a cultural ritual. Derived from the Latin aperire, the tradition is meant “to open” the stomach before dining. Accordingly, for centuries Italians have said cheers – cin cin – over drinks and appetizers in the early evening hours between work and dinner.

At Bar Botanico at Eataly Las Vegas, we've teamed up with the foragers, chefs, and bartenders of The Botanist Gin® to bring their handcrafted, delicate, and rich beverages to our bars. A team running wild with inspiration on the classic cocktail, The Botanist® produces unique special drinks we’re proud to serve at our bars. Try one of our specialty cocktails and take a walk through their creative minds with our patio takeover on the Northside Las Vegas Boulevard Entrance.

If you happen to be making a trip to Los Angeles this summer, say ciao to Campari Bar at La Pizza & La Pasta! Sit in our piazza, enjoy classic cocktails and Neapolitan pizzette, and you will be transported to an authentic Italian bar in no time.

SERRA by Birreria at Eataly NYC Flatiron

While our marketplaces are where we feature high-quality products from local and Italian producers, our restaurants are a lot like our canvas–where you can see and learn how we bring it all to life. Terra, for instance, is our rooftop restaurant and lounge featuring a wood-burning Italian grill, and a verdant ambiance. Named for "earth" in Italian, Terra's menu is centered around the grill, where our chef cooks seasonal raw ingredients over burning flames, allowing the simple flavors to shine. The resulting earthy dishes pair perfectly with the botanical cocktails, regional Italian wines, and more. Travelers visiting Los Angeles, Boston, or Dallas this summer would be remiss not to add Terra to their itinerary.

In the Flatiron district of NYC, SERRA by Birreria is in full bloom for the summer season. Our rooftop greenhouse has followed nature's own seasonal transformation and has been overrun by large, colorful, wildflowers such as wisterias, magnolias, and more!  This countryside greenhouse boasts a gradually blooming décor to a rotating menu of seasonal dishes inspired by the Italian countryside.

Finally, if you're meeting with friends and family in New York this summer, the ideal place for pranzo is Il Patio di Eataly NYC Flatiron, where you can celebrate your reunion alla grande! Italians exclaim “Alla grande!” as a way to rejoice about something, and we want you to enjoy the spring season as Italians would – alla grande! Our experts have crafted a menu full of "great" items (that is, grande and grandissimo – big and extra big!). Find antipasti perfect for sharing with the table like Torre di Frutti di Mare, a tower of fresh oysters, poached shrimp, variety of crudo, calamari, and crab, or the Fritto Grandissimo, a crate filled with a selection of our fritto offerings (think: arancini al ragù, calamari, verdure and more). Indulge in Salumi e Formaggi Alla Grande! Choose from three different sizes of boards featuring our classic items. As you increase the size, discover more items and sought-after cuts and cheeses, accompanied by a variety of seasonal goods and fried delights.

At Il Patio di Eataly Boston, you can enjoy $1 local oysters from the Massachusetts seashore, and $9 summertime cocktails like the Ramazzotti Spritz (with Ramazzotti Aperitivo Rosato, prosecco, and club soda) as well as Senior Beverage Manager Gregg Guertin’s selection of Italian vino by the glass. Join us Monday - Friday between 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Buon Viaggio!
