Portofino Dry Gin, the Spirit of the Italian Riviera

Portofino Dry Gin, the Spirit of the Italian Riviera

Tucked between beaches, mountains, sky and sea, the Ligurian Riviera di Levante is a stunning stretch of coast where colorful buildings line a jewel-toned sea, and enchanting vistas emerge around every corner. It is here where Portofino Dry Gin is born, celebrating the beauty of Italian landscapes and its rich heritage. Stemming from the desire to convey the spirit of the Italian Riviera, the artisanal distillate shares its village's hidden charms, its effortless allure and glamorous history with every sip.

Portofino Dry Gin was founded in homage to Klaus Pudel, the grandfather of the company's founder and CEO, Ruggero Raymo. Klaus, a Portofinese icon, was widely revered for having saved the village from destruction during the second world war. Later, in the era of 'la dolce vita', he played host to some of the most wonderful parties. His love of the Italian riviera, playful personality and unmistakable Mediterranean character has been been animated through the generations, and embodied by the spirit of Portofino Dry Gin.

Featuring 21 botanicals, each carefully selected for their intense aromatic properties, Portofino Dry Gin combines juniper, lemon, lavender, rosemary, marjoram, sage, iris and rose with other local ingredients, hand-picked in the garden of its villa on the hills of Portofino. The microclimate of the area allows the Mediterranean vegetation to grow abundantly year round, and each of the botanicals matures thanks to the sea breeze, and warmth of the Riviera sun.

Meant to be sipped and deeply savored, Portofino Dry Gin's initial notes are of fresh lemon and juniper that transport you to the hills of Portofino. These elements gradually give way to a bouquet of Mediterranean flavors, from rosemary and lavender, to the sweet and delicate notes of marjoram and sage that evoke the taste of a traditional Ligurian kitchen.

Portofino Dry Gin is produced by the Antica Distilleria Quaglia, one of most historic and renowned in Italy. It is made by mixing traditional and innovative methods, ranging from the use of an ancient Italian copper still – historically used to produce local liqueurs and grappas – to cutting-edge vacuum distillation technology that perfectly preserves the aromas of its botanicals.

Meanwhile, the design of the bottle draws from Portofino’s picturesque harbor, where colorful houses dot the terrain, green hills shape the landscape, and fishing boats bob on a turquoise sea.
