Join us in La Scuola for a guided wine and antipasto tasting experience focusing on the beautiful region of Alto Adige! Enjoy an interactive, sit-down tasting tour hosted by Eataly Chicago's wine and salumi & formaggi experts and a representative from Alto Adige as we learn about the history, production, and flavors of the Alto Adige region. Together, we will discover which imported and domestic artisanal cheeses, meats, and condiments pair perfectly with each of the featured wines.
During this event, guests are welcome to ask questions of the Alto Adige representative and Eataly's Wine & Antipasto Experts and interact with them throughout the guided tasting adventure. Located in the northeastern part of Italy, Alto Adige, also known as Südtirol, is an autonomous region known for its snow-capped mountain peaks and a unique, bilingual culture that pulls from both Italian and Austrian influences. Thanks to the diverse altitudes and rich soil of the mountain climate, and mindful producers that still follow centuries-old traditions, the food and wine of this region is both distinct and delicious.
Join us in this class as Eataly Experts together with the Alto Adige representative lead you on a special tasting of three wines, three Mila cheeses, and Recla Speck, all from Alto Adige.
About Speck Alto Adige IGP from Recla: Recla is a family-run business that has been producing cured meats for nearly 400 years according to traditional recipes and regional traditions. They are one of the founders of the consortium for the protection of Speck Alto Adige IGP.
About Mila: Since 1963, Mila has been producing high-quality dairy products typical of the Alto Adige region. Their name derives from the unique combination of cultures in the region and the appreciation for their excellent agricultural product: "milch" in German, "latte" in Italian.
About Wines from Alto Adige — Südtirol: The winegrowing region of Alto Adige: a multifaceted land, unique wines shaped by the Alpine landscape, tended by experienced wine-growers and prized throughout the world. Wines from Alto Adige – Südtirol: where Alpine meets the Mediterranean. Alto Adige is Italy’s northernmost wine region nestled in the Alps and Dolomite mountain ranges. Thanks to its geographic location and bi-cultural heritage, Alto Adige – Südtirol is multi-faceted and unlike any other winemaking region. Located between Austria and Switzerland on Italian soil, the region benefits from the best of both worlds—a perfect balance of brisk Alpine air and Mediterranean climate from southern winds. Over 20 different grape varieties are rooted in elevations ranging from 650-3,300 ft. Coupled with a mosaic of soils, from volcanic porphyry to limestone, the region offers high quality wines of authentic character.
